OUR LINEAGE

Our History  traces  back to more than a hundred and Eighty Years, spanning 8 generations with  Shri Ananthanarayan Iyer and his Dharam Patni, Seetha in the lead. Not much has been known about the couple and their origin. All that could be gathered from hearsay  was that they  travelled from a remote area near Mayavuram (in today's Tamil Nadu) and settled in the present village of Elambulasseri on the south side of the Shiva Temple adjacent to the tank, more than 18 decades earlier. The reason for their migration is not known. Some say that they were forced to move on, due to famine prevailing in Mayavuram, while some say they migrated in groups to greener pastures, but there is nothing to substantiate these theories.

They were God fearing brahmins belonging to Baradhwaja gothram &  Astasahasram - sub. sect. They worshipped their Kula Devam , Lord Shiva as Sri Vaikathappan.  Vaikathastami  has been celebrated from time immemorial in the family with great fanfare.

Originally the land was gifted to the new comers , and the settlers built a small thatched dwelling and named it "Thekke Madom"  (South House).  The "cut brick & tile" structure as it is today was done up about 120 years ago by his son Shri Lakshmana Iyer.  In due course of time piece meal upgradation have taken place keeping pace with the times.

We are sorry to state that this edifice has now changed hands due to nil occupancy and no maintenance, and sold to an Hindu organization running a children orphanage. We take solace from the fact that the Taravad is being put to good use and for a noble cause.
